Why did the BBC publish 22 negative articles on 300m of bike lane in Somerset?

Needless to say, the bike lane didn't survive

Sir John Betjemen called it ‘the most beautiful pier in England’. There’s a Scottish baronial style toll house on the land side of it, but Clevedon Pier was closed on the windy March morning I visited. Beyond it the Bristol channel stretched out under a mottled grey sky.
